OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center to Host Region’s Largest Diabetes Care Summit

OKLAHOMA CITY — The number of persons with diabetes is expected to more than triple by 2050, with Oklahoma ranking the fifth highest in diabetes mortality rate in the nation. To encourage ongoing training and education of healthcare workers to meet the needs of patients, OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is hosting the region’s largest diabetes care summit on August 26, 2022.
The diabetes summit, which is co-sponsored by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists, is designed for diabetes and care specialists who are interested in staying up to date with diabetes care, diabetes patient management and interprofessional strategies for self-care and education.
Summit keynote speakers include: Marisa Hilliard, Ph.D.; Dessi Zaharieva, Ph.D., CDCES; and Christie Schumacher, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP, BCCP, BC-ADM, CDCES, FCCP. Topics will include: Improving Care and Outcomes for Youth and Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes with Strengths-Based Strategies and Resilience Promotion; Navigating Strategies to Encourage Physical Activity in Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes; and Ours vs. Theirs: Professional vs. Personal CGM and How to Integrate CGM into Clinical Practice.
The summit will run for a full day, and continuing education credits of up to 6.75 are available for dietitians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and physicians.
