OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center to Host “Remarkable Conversation” on Diabetes Prevention

OKLAHOMA CITY -- OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and its community partners, Hunger Free Oklahoma and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, are on a path to cure diabetes through prevention. On Thursday, November 17, they invite the public to participate in a panel discussion on how to accomplish that goal.

“The First 1,000 Days” is part of the OU Health Remarkable Conversation event series. Diabetes experts and community leaders will gather to discuss how conception to day 1,000 of life impacts a person’s chance becoming diabetic.

Jed Friedman, Ph.D., director of OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center will host panelists:

  • Emily Jones, Ph.D., RCN-OB, FAHA, FPCNA, Ph.D., director of the Ph.D. Program at University of Oklahoma Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing at the OU Health Sciences Center
  • Ashley Weedn, M.D., MPH, FAAP, director of Oklahoma Children’s Hospital OU Health Healthy Futures Clinic
  • Marianna Wetherill, Ph.D., MPH, RDN/LD, George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Population Healthcare at the OU-TU School of Community Medicine
  • Stacy Dykstra, Ph.D., chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma
  • Richard Comeau, senior director of Programs for Hunger Free Oklahoma
