OU Medicine neurosurgeon discusses back surgery
Join us for Making Back Surgery Recovery Easier for You/Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, a virtual presentation with Zachary Smith, M.D., OU Medicine neurosurgeon, 4 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, via Zoom.
Smith will provide information about minimally invasive surgery techniques. He is a neurosurgeon who treats all surgical diseases of the brain and spine. He has a specific interest in both minimally invasive spinal techniques for adult degenerative spinal disease, spinal tumors, trauma and spinal column deformity.
The goal of minimally invasive surgery to do the least damage to the anatomy. Spine surgery focuses on getting people back to function after they've had a problem with their spine, while spending the least amount of time in the hospital. Robotic spine surgery makes this more achievable with less pain, fewer narcotics, reduced infection and a shorter hospital stay.
