Sami Ibrahimi, M.D., a fellowship-trained hematologist-oncologist, has joined the Stephenson Cancer Center. He also has been named an assistant professor of hematology and oncology in the OU College of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Ibrahimi specializes in treating blood cancers, including lymphoma and leukemia.

He will also play a key role in developing the hematologic malignancy activities for the cancer center’s involvement in the national precision medicine consortium ORIEN. ORIEN allows clinicians and researchers to leverage multiple data sources and match patients to promising new cancer treatments targeted specifically to a patient’s tumor.

“Dr. Ibrahimi is a wonderful addition to our team,” said Dr. Adam Asch, Stephenson Cancer Center Deputy Director and section chief of hematology and oncology at the OU College of Medicine. “His strong background in academic medicine and clinical research are an integral part of delivering world-class patient care to Oklahoma cancer patients.”

With research interests in platelet disorders and immunotherapy, Ibrahimi has authored and co-authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications and presented at several national and international conferences. In 2017, he was awarded the Conquer Cancer Foundation Merit Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, recognizing high-quality scientific research abstracts at their annual meeting.

Ibrahimi completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Stephenson Cancer Center and a master of science in clinical and translational research at the OU Health Sciences Center. Prior to this training, he completed an internal medicine residency at Baystate/Tufts University School of Medicine in Springfield, Massachusetts. Ibrahimi earned his medical degree at the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine in Jordan.

Ibrahimi sees patients at the Stephenson Cancer Center, 800 N.E. 10th Street. To request an appointment or second opinion, call (405) 271-8299 or visit stephensoncancercenter.org/appointment.
