Tuesday, October 2, 2018 - Campus News -

Parker is the first graduate from the Stephenson Cancer Center’s new urologic oncology fellowship program, accredited by the Society of Urologic Oncology.

As a urologic oncologist, Parker will diagnose and treats cancers of the urinary and male reproductive tract including prostate, bladder, penile, kidney, and testicular. He has also been named an assistant professor with the OU College of Medicine.

Parker has a special academic focus in health services and outcomes research, and he is currently enrolled in a competitive master’s degree program at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

In addition to seeing patients at the Stephenson Cancer Center, Parker will provide services at a newly established satellite oncology and general urology clinic servicing patients in south Oklahoma City.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Parker to our team of urologic oncologists at the Stephenson Cancer Center,” said Michael Cookson, MD, MMHC, Chairman of the Department of Urology and a urologic oncologist. “In particular, his leadership in a newly established clinic for patients in South Oklahoma City will ensure all Oklahomans have access to the best in urologic cancer care as well as national clinical trials.”

Parker completed his urologic oncology fellowship at the Stephenson Cancer Center at the OU Health Sciences Center. He completed a urology and general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and served as chief resident in urologic oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, part of the Temple Health System in Philadelphia. He earned his medical degree at OU College of Medicine and an undergraduate degree from University of Oklahoma.

“Dr. Parker is joining a team focused on providing cancer patients with the most advanced therapies for urologic cancers through technology, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary care,” said Cookson. “Patients visiting any member of our team have access to a one-stop shop of experts including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and a clinical research team, all in one location.”

The Prostate and Urologic Oncology Program at the Stephenson Cancer Center is made up of six fellowship-trained urologic oncologists, the largest group of such physicians in the state. Their team leads the state in prostate and urologic cancer therapies, offering unique services such as minimally invasive surgery, MRI-fusion guided prostate biopsies, and focal therapy for prostate cancer (HIFU).

Parker has a focus on academic medicine and clinical research, having already authored 11 peer-reviewed publications and five book chapters.

Parker sees patients at the Stephenson Cancer Center, 800 N.E. 10th Street. For an appointment, call (405) 271-4088.
